Established more than fifty years ago, the Futurity/Maturity System was designed to provide a "look into the future" ...a method for breeders to showcase their litters and a way for others to compare, contrast, and learn from their efforts." We first met Sharon Clark Todoroff of Todorhaus German Shepherds while traveling to the 2015 German Shepherd Dog Club of America (GSDCA) Nationals. The (GSDCA) Nationals were held at Purina Farms near St. Louis, Missouri. Sharon is an ethical breeder and we have common views about the German Shepherd Dog Breed. She breeds German Shepherd Dogs for sound temperament, good health and longevity, and to be able to do what this breed is for: "WORK."

Sharon only uses dogs in their breeding program that are Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) certified.  She breeds dogs for what she defines as, "The Total Package." Todorhaus dogs have been utilized in service work, police work, obedience, herding, agility, and etc. She breeds dogs that can accomplish the many disciplines in the "World of the German Shepherd Dog."  Additionally, Sharon is an American Kennel Club (AKC) Breeder of Merit!

Todorhaus German Shepherds has predominantly American lines, but occasionally breeds to German lines. Their dogs are known for conformation and also work in herding, agility, and tracking. They also donate dogs to the Service Community. In 2016, I contacted Sharon Todoroff about the possibility of breeding to her Grand Champion Todorhaus Cloud Dragon "Drako" because of his many strengths. We explained to Sharon about the needs of veterans with disabilities including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and the need for quality emotional support dogs that we would donate to the SEAL Dog Foundation. 

Drako, Hawk's father was a Grand Champion who passed his OFA health checks, had an excellent temperament, and was already a proven sire. Drako had a very highly desired "plush coat." Sharon agreed to breed her Drako to our Champion Karma Carmella of Lutzhaus CGC, TC, CHIC, as we thought it might be a quality breeding. That thought turned out to be an understatement! We openly admit we underestimated the genetic potential of the combination of breeding of Drako and Karma. We have so many fans, we will do more breedings with the Todorhaus lines, and of course we will again donate puppies to veterans through the SEAL Dog Foundation!

Black Hawk Wins 2019 Mid Atlantic Maturity

Hawk's litter was whelped on October 20, 2016 with 6 other gorgeous littermate puppies. Sharon requested the "Pick of the Litter." This "Pick of the Litter" was a very handsome male we temporarily named "Baron." Sharon waived Drako's normal stud fee and committed to another additional breeding to obtain him. Sharon also requested a female from this litter, but all puppies were already spoken for. We had made commitments to donate 3 of the puppies to veterans through the SEAL Dog Foundation. Sharon named her new male puppy "Black Hawk" (call name "Hawk"). Hawk is listed by the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) as having: Hips  GS-100711G24M-VPI GOOD and Elbows: GS-EL39217M24-VPI NORMAL. Hawk received his OFA CHIC Rating in 2020.

Sharon soon started training and showing her puppy "Hawk" in dog shows. Hawk not only started his career by earning AKC points, but also winning a Best Puppy in  a Specialty Show (BPISS). Sharon later took Hawk to the 2017 German Shepherd Dog Club of America Nationals where he placed 6th in his puppy class.

On June 10, 2018, Hawk won 1st Place in the GSDCA Midwest Futurity Senior Class and took Best Opposite Futurity Dog. In 2019, Hawk won the Mid-Atlantic Futurity. Todorhaus Black Hawk v Lutzhaus ("Hawk") is owned by Sharon Todoroff, Mark French and Lori Payne. Collectively together including his handlers, we are all known as "Team Black Hawk!" In July 2020, Hawk earned his Grand Championship and the designation "Select." In September of 2020 Hawk took Best Opposite in a Specialty Show (BOSS).

At the 2018 German Shepherd Dog Club of America (GSDCA) Nationals, Black Hawk won Futurity Victor and later Reserve American Bred. On October 20, 2018, (Hawk's 2nd birthday) Junior Handler Tifani King and Hawk earned 2018 GSDCA Reserve Junior at the Nationals. What an amazing week at the 2018 GSDCA Nationals!

In July 2019, Hawk became the Mid Atlantic Maturity Victor qualifying for the 2019 Maturity Nationals. In August 2019 Hawk finished his AKC Championship with all major wins. Hawk will soon start training for performance events to become another "Total Dog" bred by French's German Shepherds. In October 2019, Hawk earned his Herding Instinct Certificate and Farm Dog Certification!

In Summer of 2019, Hawk was bred and a litter whelped in the following August.  In 2020, Hawk was bred again in a repeat breeding. We plan to utilize more future breedings in our lines from Todorhaus German Shepherds! In 2021 Hawk was bred to our East German DDR female Venus and later to Lori Payne's CH Todorhaus Mohave's Gypsy. In 2022 Hawk sired a litter with Tesla of Refiners Fire Kennel.

When you observe and examine a dog, whether showing, working or performing in an event or competition, it shows the dog's capabilities and what the dog looks and appears to be. A Total Dog displays many abilities in function, temperament, and structure. Our Total Dog philosophy places an emphasis on dogs that can show and perform in multiple venues utilizing multiple disciplines, such as displaying the gait appropriate for their breed type while in the show ring, and then using that superb construction to effortlessly to compete in performance activities. A sound, well-bred, well-adjusted dog can easily transition from the conformation show ring to a performance event. Venues as agility, herding, rally, obedience, scent detection and tracking, IGP (IPO/Schutzhund), lure coursing and weight pull are typical performance events. A Total Dog has the looks to excel as a proper specimen of its breed, while also having the brains and ability to perform athletically in a variety of sporting venues.
