We encourage visitors to
search online for Trevor Maroshek and
his SEAL Dog "Chopper" for the complete
story. Chopper is a true American K9
military hero that served his country
faithfully. Chopper and Trevor are most
famous for single handedly stopping what
would have been the largest loss in a
single attack of Special Operators. Of
those 74 were Navy Seals, 12 were Delta
Force, and other additional Spec-Operations personnel. Two
video/movie episodes were made and
produced because of this
event. One was titled "SEAL Dog" and the other
"Frog Dog." Anyone can search
these videos online or view them on
online streaming services as Hulu and
the Smithsonian Channel.
We first learned of Chopper, a purebred German Shepherd Multi-Purpose Canine (MPC) Navy SEAL Military Dog and his handler and owner Trevor Maroshek, a highly decorated Navy SEAL from watching the Smithsonian Channel's episode of SEAL Dog. By watching the episode, we learned about the SEAL Dog Foundation and started researching this incredible story.
I
personally contacted the former Navy SEAL
Trevor Maroshek after researching and
finding him on the internet. I asked
Trevor why he chose a
German Shepherd as his Navy SEAL dog.
Trevor told me he believed, " The German Shepherd Dog
is the best breed of dog in the world!"
Chopper saved Trevor's life on and off
the battlefield and later became his
Therapy Dog! It is a story of the
incredible bond between two hero
warriors.
It was then I learned of the need for
emotional support and therapy dogs for
veterans suffering from PTSD and other
disabilities. Many in our country have
little understanding of the cost of war
endured by our veterans and their
families. The cost of war is more than
the ultimate sacrifice of a soldier's
life, wounds or dismemberment. It is also
the psychological trauma and disabilities
from their service to our country. Too
many of our veterans pay a high cost as a
result of their protecting and keeping
our nation and citizens safe.
The editor of the "Review," the official publication German Shepherd Dog Club of America
was contacted about a possible
article about the "SEAL Dog" story. The Club's Editor suggested
I write the SEAL Dog Story which was published in
their April 2016 edition. After
some soul searching about the needs of our disabled veterans,
we
contacted the SEAL Dog Foundation about the possibility of
donating dogs for veterans through the Foundation.
Not only French's German Shepherds, but other quality
breeders are now assisting and donating dogs to veterans
through the SEAL Dog Foundation, a 501C(3) non-profit organization.
On June 15, 2018 Chopper passed at the
age of 13 years of age. Trevor Maroshek
told me of his plans to further give back
to our country, the military community
and our veterans. He was able to obtain frozen semen from Chopper for future
breedings. It is his desire to begin a
Chopper line of black purebred German
Shepherd Working Dogs. Trevor has given
French's German Shepherds the honor and privilege
of establishing, breeding and whelping "Chopper Working
Lines!"
We are pleased to already have several potential dogs to
begin "Chopper Lines." Following our breeding
standards, any dogs used in establishing this line must
become titled, proven and pass all health checks. Chopper's
progeny will not be available for sale to the general
public. Visit our developing Black
German Shepherd Working Lines...
